Map Features

The map facilitates the creation of a community mailing list for each development based on individual subscriptions. Organizers also receive email notifications when other people start watching or organizing on the same property, upload a file or photo or leave a note. When a user subscribes their information remains private but they will recieve all updates.

When a user is added as an organizer, they can chose to display their contact information for others to see, or to make it private; notifications will be sent by the system either way.

The map also facilitates coordinated efforts. For every property, there is a place where anyone can upload a file or photo or leave a note that everyone can see. These get sent to everyone who signed up for updates from a particular NYCHA property.

The map helps you request documents about specific properties from NYCHA by automatically generating an email you can send as a request under the New York State Freedom of Information Law (FOIL); the NYCHA Real Talk team email will be in the blind copy (BCC) field on the email so they can see what you sent and potentially help you follow up; the agency won't see the email on that line. You can also reach out directly to equitableneighborhoods@takerootjustice.org.

Finally, the map supports a citywide network of organizers who can support one another. An administrator who is logged in can send a message to everyone in the network who is a subscriber or organizer, regardless of where they are organizing or to send only to organizers in a particular area.
